Review: Kawaii Neko Girls

Kawaii Neko Girls is a short puzzle game in which you have to solve a series of simple jigsaw puzzles in order to collect nine pin-ups featuring neko girls.

Technical stuff

    -H subgenre: Pin-up collector.

-Playtime: It's very short. You can skip all the puzzles and see all the pictures in a few minutes, but it took me around 25 minutes to complete all the puzzles.

-Where to get it?: It's free on Steam.

-Does it need a patch for +18 content?: Yes, it's sold as a DLC for 0'79€, or I guess $1. Without it, the pin-ups feature the girls in equally suggestive poses, but fully clothed.

-Languages it comes in: It has some text in a very long list of languages, but it seems like the translations aren't the best. Not like the text is important anyway. However, it doesn't look like you can change the language of the game manually, or at least I didn't find the way to do it. It looks like it just takes your computer or Steam's set language and runs with that.

    -DLC's: There are some:

-18+ Adult only content is pretty self descriptive, it unlocks the H versions of the pin-ups.

-Small donation, Medium donation, Big donation and Amazing donation are all optional donations to support the developer and don't affect the game in any way.

Fetishes it covers

All the pin-ups feature neko girls, so the game is all about nekomimi. Apart from that, I guess you can argue that it plays with semi-nakedness, work outfits and the like.

Ratings & review

-Art: 6/10. I liked some of the pin-ups a lot, but others aren't very good. The proportions are out of place sometimes, the anatomy can be off, most pictures feel quite basic, and there's only 9 images to see. But I really liked the backgrounds and the coloring and shading; and some of the designs are nice, though pretty basic.

-Gameplay: The gameplay is fairly simple. The pin-ups are divided in square pieces that are randomly rotated. If you click on a piece, you'll rotate it 90º clockwise. I'd like to say that you unlock the pin-up once you reconstruct the whole image correctly, but the truth is, all pictures are unlocked from the start, which makes the whole process feel pretty pointless. I also missed a way to rotate the pieces counter-clockwise, because I wasted a lot of time clicking the pieces too many times. The game barely has a UI, and it doesn't have a title screen or a settings menu. This brough the quality of the game way down for me, but it's a free game so I can't really complain. It does have a pause menu where you can choose the level (the puzzles do get gradually more difficult), and see the controls; and there's a gallery too.

-Story: No story, apart from a very short description of the pin-up you're currently playing, that lets you imagine the whole situation. It's a pity, I think this game would've definitely benefitted from some little story segments.

-OST/Sound design: It has one track that loops constantly. The music isn't bad, but you do get tired of it after 15 minutes of the same thing over and over. Luckily, the game has a mute button.

-Bugs: I mostly found a lot of design flaws, but apart from that, I didn't find anything working incorrectly, just unpolished stuff.

-Fap worth: Some of the pin-ups hold up better than others. Overall, I think the H content is more or less decent, as long as you aren't very picky, but there isn't a lot of it. I don't think it's enough to work as material, both in quality and in quantity, but a few of the pin-ups are actually good.

Recommended?

I mean... it's a free little game. And the +18 DLC is very cheap. It does feel very amateur, and won't exactly change your life. In fact, you'll probably forget it exists in less than a week. But it's short, sweet and free. So sure, give it a try, and get the DLC too. Support small developers.

Final rating is 5'5/10.
