Love Rhythm is a game that combines visual novels, hentai and rhythm game mechanics. We'll play through a series of stories in which we'll fall in love with multiple cute girls, find out what they like and give them gifts.
Technical stuff
-H subgenre: Bishoujo.
-Playtime: I finished it in 3'5 hours, but I took longer because I ground the achievements.
-Where to get it?: It's on Steam for 1'59€, maybe less than 2$.
-Does it need a patch for +18 content?: Yes, but it's a free DLC. I tried unabling it after I was done with the game, to see what the game was like without it, and found that the sex scenes were still there. Another bug (see Bugs section)? Probably. But it could be that the game has hentai with or without the DLC. Not like it matters, since the DLC is free anyway.
-Languages it comes in: Text comes in English and Simplified Chinese. Voices only in English.
-DLC's: It has two:
-Hentai Crush: Love Rhythm Uncensored: This is the +18 content (obviously).
-My Boss is a sadist: Unlocks a new story with a new girl and a new H scene.
Fetishes it covers
This game mostly covers BDSM and public sex as kinks. It also has a lot of big boobs and a little bit of loli and twins.
Ratings & review
-Art: 6/10. It's good... But there's barely any of it. There are two kinds of artworks in this game: Character portraits and H scenes, and the cohesion between the two is lacking. It definitely does it's job, but the little amount of art, paired with all the other issues of this game, isn't worth much.
-Gameplay: The main gameplay are the rhythm game segments. You'll play a bunch of songs, osu!mania style, and your only job is to not lose all of your HP while playing them, this is, to not fail too many notes. And here is where the problems start. Despite being called "Love Rhythm", and the main gameplay being focused on music, the truth is... it's barely a rhythm game. For example, the game doesn't acknowledge full combos, the only rating system is score-based, and it doesn't feel too balanced, you can easily get an S failing many notes. The difficulty of the songs is pretty random, and you'll find that the third song you'll play is the hardest of them all. After that one, though, all the other songs have average difficulty. Each song has only one difficulty level, by the way, which is weird for a music game, and definitely feels lazy. Luckily, you can easily skip them with in-game currency. The second most important part of the game consists on Visual Novel styled chapters, each girl has 4 (except for the DLC girl that has 5), and the rest of the gameplay consists on some HuniePop styled "talk with them until they tell you what they like and then gift it to them" thing, but more superficial than in HuniePop. Gifting them things gives you affection, which you'll need to unlock all the chapters, which you'll need for the H-scene. More on the hentai in a bit.
-Story: 3/10. If you thought the game maybe got better in this part, think again. The VN stories are short, not very deep, silly, and unnecessary at best. They definitely feel like excuses to show you the porn. You're supposed to be a different character in each story, but you have the same portrait in each one, so it gets confusing very soon, and again, it feels lazy. These segments also have choices... That are totally useless. They don't change anything, apart from how much "affection" you'll gain from one choice or other, but the difference is pretty meaningless. You'll max the affection with each girl after one or two gifts anyway.
-Bugs: Way too many. They're not game breaking, but they're definitely annoying. I found bugs everywhere, and I wasn't looking for them. There's character portrait bugs, voice line bugs, background picture bugs, and most annoying of all, rhythm game bugs. The game seems to have a hard time catching two notes at the same time, which is a problem, and the system doesn't seem too precise. I don't know if it's an input lag problem, or a balance problem, but I consider myself an experienced rhythm game player, and in this game, getting a full combo is pretty hard, impossible at times.
-Fap worth: The H-scenes are probably the most redeeming quality of this game, and they also have their own set of issues. Mostly, there aren't enough of them. They consist of a 2D-live animated picture, that will advance the "scene" as you press a button. They aren't exactly varied. Most girls have the same body type, and most poses are similar. All in all, though, the scenes are good, they're fully voiced (although I didn't particularly like the voice acting, because it was very American porn styled, but that's a personal preference thing), and the animations are smooth and well done.
Picture cropped because I'd like to generally keep depictions of genitalia off the blog. |
Recommended?
Honestly... Not really. Sadly, this game feels like it was put together in a week by a few interns, using free assets. It feels very unfinished and unpolished, and it has browser game quality. In fact, the UI of this game is obviously designed for mobile devices, even though I haven't found this game anywhere else than Steam (although admittedly, I didn't look for it very hard). In any case, the game IS cheap, even more on sale, and the hentai isn't bad at all. I suppose this depends on each one's personal experience, but I got more annoyed than horny playing this game.
Final rating is 4/10.
